Welcome to EMRC

EMRC, Gujarat University, is one of the forerunners of the 21 EMRCs set up by University Grants Commission (UGC/MHRD) across the country under the umbrella of Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC). EMRC, Ahmedabad was established on 9 November, 1984. Since then, it has been actively involved in production of TV programmes and e-contents. In 2000, MHRD-NMEICT project was allotted to EMRC, Ahmedabad to prepare TV videos (Vyas TV) and e-contents. The Centre is involved in the production of educational content for students of Higher Education.

It develops and designs excellent learning materials for students and helps them benefit through the vast educational resources available within and outside the state in the form of e-content, ETV programmes, MOOCs, documentaries, multimedia and learning objects. The Centre is also engaged in research to assess the popularity and utility of these educational programmes besides analyzing the potential and utility of World Wide Web, television and other communication technologies for teaching and learning.

Gujarat University is the largest University in Gujarat having a significant history. The Gujarat University is on the path of overall dynamic progress wherein international facilities of global standards are being shaped for our students apart from advancement in academic and research methodologies. Such facilities of international standards will help in modeling students to face real time challenges at national as well as the global level and in empowering students to serve our country. Gujarat University recently completed 68 years of glorious existence and the University has made immense contribution to how our vibrant state of Gujarat and our Nation have shaped since Independence. The Great legends are part of our University alumni and our recent efforts to reinvigorate the Alumni Association will bring together our massive aluminous base. Almost 4 lakh students are enrolled with the University and the University campus is rapidly embracing digitalization with over 35 Smart Class Rooms across thecampus to impart education using modern techniques.

The University Library is completely digitalized and is currently using a state-of-the-art RFID system. The Gujarat University Startup & Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC) is the leading university-supported startup incubator and support system in India supporting more than 60 startups. GUSEC supports startups, entrepreneurs and innovators in Gujarat, and facilitates the promotion of a culture and spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation across the university. Under GUSEC, University also has established a Council for Innovation & Skill Development (CIS) to advance skill development of University's massive student strength. Gujarat University has done various MoUs and associations with Research Organizations, Government agencies, and Industrial bodies to support students and faculties in order to create useful research for the society. The University has adopted a student-centric approach and shall continue to take necessary measures and initiatives to contribute to advancement of research, academics and innovation in the country.

RAJ CHAWLA


Raj Chawla is a Senior Journalist and the Director I/C at the Educational Multimedia Research Centre in Ahmedabad, affiliated with UGC-CEC and the Ministry of Education. He also serves as the Channel Coordinator for ‘Kautilya (कौटिल्य)’ SWAYAM PRABHA, and the Academic Coordinator for SWAYAM PRABHA under UGC-CEC. In addition, he is a Professor of Practice at the Centre for Professional Courses at Gujarat University.

With over 27 years of experience, Mr.Chawla has worked as a TV Journalist, Anchor, Producer, and Writer. He has held senior editorial positions with several prominent news channels, including AAJTAK, Zee News, Rajya Sabha TV, and News World India. After mid-2016, he transitioned to consultancy, working with various media organizations, including a Delhi-based think tank, and contributing to 'Panchjanya'. His extensive media career also includes a role as Senior Editor and Media Consultant for the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.

Mr.Chawla was empaneled with All India Radio as a newsreader, delivering over 700 live bulletins. He has produced more than 50 documentaries on social issues, particularly focusing on government welfare schemes. Mr.Chawla has also been a key member of the organizing team for the Chitra Bharati Film Festival, contributing to its editions in 2018 (Delhi), 2020 (Ahmedabad), 2022 (Bhopal), and 2024 (Panchkula). He has written articles for leading national Hindi dailies such as Amar Ujala, Rashtriya Sahara, Swatantra Bharat, and the weekly magazine ‘Panchjanya’ on a wide range of topics.

Academically, Mr.Chawla has made significant contributions as a visiting faculty and expert at various prestigious institutions, including Delhi University, IIMC (Delhi), Jamia Millia Islamia (Delhi), Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (Bhopal), and Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (Jind). He has also been an industry expert in numerous workshops and conferences, including those organized by the Centre for Professional Development in Higher Education (UGC-HRDC) and Subharati University (Meerut).

In 2023, Mr.Chawla was recognized as an eminent alumnus of the University of Delhi during the university's centenary celebrations, with his profile displayed on the Wall of Fame. He also led the production team for the President award-winning show ‘Ab ke baras Mohe Bitiya hi Kijo’ for the channel News World India in 2016. Mr.Chawla holds a Master’s degree in Journalism & Mass Communication and is a resident of Delhi.
